Paddle the Preserve for Professioanls: Exploring Climate Change in Tampa Bay
The University of Florida IFAS Extension Pinellas County, Florida Sea Grant Program is pleased to host this field trip at Weedon Island Preserve for the West Central Florida Chapter of the American Meteorological Society, local Floodplain Managers, Planners, and other professionals. Weather depending, this will be a combined hiking and paddling program! There will also be a foul weather plan, because you know, March in Florida!
The Field Trip will explore the topics of...
* Projections of Climate Change Impacts to Tampa Bay (sea level rise, temperature, precipitation)
* Potential Impacts to the Tampa Bay Region (natural resources, built infrastructure, and the people)
* Case study of sea level rise impacts at Weedon Island Preserve looking at analyses conducted by the Tampa Bay Estuary Program, Pinellas County Dept of Natural Resources and others
* Overview of Adaptation and Mitigation Planning Efforts in the Tampa Bay Region
Participants will use county canoes and sign the county canoe waiver. All participants must be at least 10 years old. Any participants under 18 years old must be companied by an adult with a ratio of 1 adult: 1 youth.
Participants must wear a closed-toed wading shoe (old tennis shoes, keens, scuba booties). Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, cover up) is recommended. All participants must abide by the safety policies and recommendations of Pinellas County Staff. Lifevest and paddle will be provided for you. Please bring a water bottle.
